Webber's story-
Greg Webber is a truly innovative and passionate shaper. His ever growing and morphing range is built on over 30 years of experience with experimentation and drawing on the knowledge of other renowned shapers like Terry Bishop, Terry Fitzgerald and Cheyne Horan. Greg's desire to always be improving his own shapes and the surfing in general is inspiring.
Whilst Greg had been experimenting with concaves and rockers since 1986 it wasn't until 1992 when Shane Herring beat Kelly Slater in the Coke Classic finals on flat rockered full concaved board that he could really move forward with this concept. Even though Shapers got to hear about the deep full concave the general surfing community only saw it as a one liner in a single magazine. It took Shane's request for Greg to shape a board that could do a carve 360 in the tube to "wake everyone up". These boards gained the nickname "banana boards". By creating a board with such a massive rocker it gave other shapers the confidence to make moderate increases. People began to notice the radical curves, increase in speed, , bite and maneurability they gained. Other factors that Greg had employed in his boards that influence how the board performs such as deck line and thickness distribution were missed by most as they were distracted by the rocker and concave. These factors are only just appearing in mainstream production now.
Not satisfied with just board shapes Greg is involved with fin shape experimentation including curved fins and raked oversized twin fins and has also designed and patented a circular wave pool. He has shaped boards for many top ranked surfers including Taj Burrow.
Greg has been arguably rated one of the top ten shapers of all time.
